Welded Wire Mesh
Welded wire mesh or “weldmesh” is created when the wire intersections are welded together which means the mesh cannot be unravelled when cut. This type of mesh is manufactured in rolls or in sheets depending on the specification. Weld mesh is in demand as thinner wires can be used over larger spaces to create a larger open area while the mesh itself remains strong and stable. Materials used are mild steel, galvanized mild steel and stainless steel.
Mild steel is widely used in construction for retaining or reinforcement applications.
Galvanized mild steel is in general use for fencing and the manufacture of security screens, partitions, general storage solutions, machine guards, cages and aviaries. Galvanized welded mesh is made with either a pre-galvanized wire or is hot dipped after made which is more expensive but is preferred for aesthetic reasons as it covers the welding.
Stainless steel welded mesh being a more expensive material is selected for use in food or pharmaceutical production where hygiene standards need to be maintained or when the finished product needs to withstand environmental conditions without rapid rusting.
When specifying measurements for welded mesh the opening is generally measured from the centre of one wire to the centre of the next wire rather than clear opening between wires as is the case with the woven mesh. Please give as much information as possible with your enquiry, material, opening centre to centre (or you can specify as clear opening), wire diameter, width x length required and number of sheets or rolls.
